The following are links to people, brands, or companies that inspire my own designs, represent my ambitions, and that i respect and appreciate for what they bring to the world in my areas of interest: design, development, fashion, cycling, outdoors, and music.
Rottet Studio: has led the way in refined, exotic interior design. I'm excited to see their upcoming hotel work. this will be the firm to watch in hospitality design in the upcoming years.
Bittoni Design: boutique design firm in west los angeles. clean, modern, aestetic, with the basic manifesto that "design can change lives"
Boland Studio: brooklyn-based up-and-comer- artist, sculptor, designer- see his recent work in the hallways of the W in manhattan.
Griffin Design: gifted la based craftsman specailizing in custom wood fabrications, visual merchandising, and millwork.
Derek Crimmel: entertainment industry professional specailizing in set construction, and scene painting. see his work on any "top chef".
Room & Board: furniture retailer and manufacturer mixing arts and crafts, shaker, and mid-modern design, among others.
KOR Group,Palisades Development,Thompson Hotels,Joie de Vivre:these are some of my most respected and admired development firms, who all seemingly understand that good design= increased profits, and synergizes finance with good design. these are the developers who deserve to profit from society, because they elevate the aestetic of the world around them.
Paul Smith: suits that make me look much more distinguished than i am.
John Varvatos: nothing screams MENS fashion like JV. A man who can sell a cashmere hoody and make it look cowboy deserves respect.
James Perse: what can i say , he beat me to the punch. this is the store design and product i would have if my dad was max. if he ever wants to do bike clothes (and i know he does) i hope he gets in touch.
G-Star: something appeals to me in the military styling.
Rapha: its about time someone recognized the fact that roadies are divas who wear prada just as often as lycra.the site is spot on and definitely inspirational for those "epic" rides, even if bsnyc makes fun.
Assos: the swiss are known for their mix of italian design, german precision, and french passion. Assos brings this to cycling from my favorite country outside my own.
Crank Brothers: why do i get the feeling at least one of the founders of this company was an architect? either way, brings true refined design to the bike world and based in laguna. nuff said.
Chrome: mixing urban wear and cycling before fixed gears were trendy. their "shins" pants are awesome, wish they fit me.
Livestrong: not really a cycling site, but needs to be included somewhere on this site because of the importance of the foundations' work, and its relevance to me.
Arc'teryx: outdoor innovators from the start. minimalist, almost architectural designs. if i could make clothes, this is how i would design them.
Snow Peak: my backpacking minimalist resource. beautiful, elegant and refined, brought to the rugged outdors.not to mention excellent customer service.
Patagonia: i am a long time admirer of this clothing and gear retailer.if you've never read "let my people go surfing" pick it up immediately. Yvon Chouinard thinks more holistically than any big-boss i've ever met, and the brand is constantly innovating, specifically in their sustainable manufacturing methods.
Arbor: "green",sustainability-minded company that makes beautiful wood grain snowboards.
Pandora: internet radio based on the music you love. how did i ever live without thee?
Pitchfork: has reviewed most of my new favorite bands before i knew who they were. good resource.
blogs:
BikeSnobNYC: absolutely my favorite blog. Bike Snob and I are kindred spirits, although i would never tell him, much less comment on his blog.
Curbed LA: my favorite real estate site for whats going down in the area- since i cant afford a house and cant be bothered to go east of the 405.dont hate.
McSweeny's: i love intelligent literature, and am sure there is much more out there, but this is what i know.
Selectism: i'll admit this one is new to me, but i've enjoyed many of the blog posts, specifically the posts dropping the latest cycling fashion.
Velodramatic: i met Michael Robertson, cycling photographer and fashion aficionado on the Coleman Ridge climb at the 2009 Levis Gran Fondo and somehow managed to remember the name of his blog. To this day I still enjoy checking in to see some of the amazing photos he has produced for among others, Specialized and Rapha. I think he has really good momentum going with his work in the cycling industry, and look forward to seeing his work published often.
